Yay we found movies in English

We love going to the movies.  Movie dates were something we did quite frequently in Vancouver.  So we had to come to terms with not being able to see movies while we were here.  There have been two film festivals since we have been here which allowed us to see a couple great movies.  We got to watch The Great Gatsby in this amazing courtyard under the stars.  It was beautiful.  And we also saw The Angriest Man in New York in an old theatre near our house.  It was so beautiful, looked like a grand theatre from the 20s or something.   I felt like I should have been very dressed up. So its OK we have obviously made it through with those and a great deal of downloading.

Fun fact: Unlimited downloading here!  We can watch as many movies, TV shows and talk to my mom on skype as much as we want!!

Anyhow after a few months living here we were informed that there was a theatre just outside of town in one of the suburbs that played English films!  We were overjoyed.  We couldn't find any information on it anywhere though and online it didn't say anything about the films being in their original version.  One day we were walking past one of the theatres on Passeo Zorrilla and saw that they had flyers set out which listed all the movies and times for all the theatres in town!  It was also very clear about which were VO (original version).

The first one we went to see was at a place right near our house called Casablanca Theatre.  It was a small charming place with only three films shown a night.  The movie we chose was called The Woman In the Fifth, a film from a few years ago starring Ethan Hawke.  Well turns out the VO was actually in French with only a few lines in English and of course Spanish subtitles.  We did OK though and were just happy to be at the movies.  Just a note: If you ever make it to Casablanca theatre bring your own snacks as there is no concession stand.

The next film we saw was Gone Girl at the theatre outside town.  It was an hour long walk to get there but was totally worth it.  The theatre is at a mall  but the mall seems like just a big playground for kids.  There were a couple weird stores but most of the mall was just play areas, arcades, mini gold, go carts and some food.  A cool place for sure.  This theatre had popcorn so I was happy!  When we left the film it was pouring rain so we decided to try and take the bus home.  Turns out it stops, very conveniently, basically right outside our apartment!

It seems there are a few English movies shown each week at a couple theatres, so it is worth it to get the movie flyers each week to check times and places.  Most English films seem to be on Friday and Saturday but some theatres have maybe one that plays all week.  The flyers come out on Wednesdays as far as I can tell.

Update: Since I wrote this we have also seen Intersteller and Exodus.  Intersteller is one of the most amazing films I have ever seen.  Everyone needs to see it.
