I think I may have found the greatest place on earth (says
former alcoholic me)! So for those of
you reading from Canada you know that alcohol is not cheap. You are looking at $5 to $6 dollars for a
drink at the bar and the cheapest bottle of wine at the liquor store is around
$10. I won’t even get into the price for
bottles of vodka etc. But here in the
magical land of Spain it’s like they want us to be drunk all the time! You are looking at about 2 euros in pretty
much every bar/café/restaurant for a beer or a glass of wine, and the best part
is it most often comes with a snack!
They will bring your drink and a bowl of chips or a bowl of olives, or
candies or sometimes all three if you get a good place! It’s amazing.
Also they sell booze at the grocery store and it’s so affordable it only
makes sense to have several bottles of wine at your house at all times. You can get a bottle of wine for about 1 euro and if
you really want to splurge you can get the good stuff for about 3 Euros. We got our 26 oz bottles of vodka and gin for
5 euros!
It really is the most wonderful place. Many times when we are out at the bar we get
beer instead of water because it is less money so why not? Honestly when the bill comes after a night of
drinking and its less then 20 euros for us to be smashed that is a great
night! And we don’t get as sick because
of the snacks! I am over using
exclamation points because I am still so thrilled about this. It is going to be tough whenever we return to
Canada and have to pay way too much money for alcohol again.
The funny thing is before we came here I decided I really
needed to cut back on my partying. Not
that I was totally wild anymore, I mean I am pretty old now, but it was at a
point that I knew I needed a change. Now
we are here and it’s so cheap and I think why was I not here in the midst of my
serious partying days!? It would have
saved me a fortune.
Also with my now serious undertaking of writing my novel it is
great that wine is only 1 euro because every great writer is or was a
drunk. Let’s be serious. Spain is the perfect place to write. Thanks for the tips Hemmingway!
